Lunges: Lunges is a great exercise that will build the muscles in your quads. With lunges you have to begin in a standing position then lunge forward with one leg until your knee reaches a 90 degree angle. Now push yourself until you return in a standing position and repeat this process with your opposite leg. It is important to know you should keep your torso upright when you perform lunges. Squats: Probably the most well known exercise to improve your jumping ability is squats. These exercises will build the strength necessary to increase your vertical leap. You can perform squats either with weights in a squat rack or you can perform them without any weights. When you perform squats you have to start in a standing position and bend your knees as if you are going to sit down. For squats to be effective you have to keep your back as straight as you can and make sure your knees remain above your feet. Squat all the way down as far as you can and then gradually raise yourself back up. Toe Raises: Strengthening your calf muscles is important if you want to jump higher and toe raises will help you do just that. To perform toe raises you can simply use a piece of wood (the thicker the better) or use a machine in the gym specially made for this exercise. Hang your heels off of the edge of the wood and raise up on your tip toes. Then lower yourself back down as far as you can. Repeat this process as many times as you can with or without weights. Step Ups: Stand in front of a chair and then put one foot on the chair and use this foot to step up on the chair. Once you have done so you have to step back down and repeat the process with your opposite leg. Just like squats this exercise will also help build strength in your quads which will allow you to jump higher.
